MediaCorp English news website TODAY reports that between 2017 and November 2022, six of the 25 pre-sale HDB flats were compulsorily repossessed after the HDB took action against them for selling their flats before reaching the minimum residence age.
The repossessed flats will be sold in the Sale of Balance Flats (SBB) campaign.
According to figures released by the Authority in December last year, between 2017 and November 2022, owners of 53 HDB flats faced enforcement action for failing to personally occupy their flats and sell them within the minimum residence period.
Of these, 21 HDB flats were compulsorily repossessed and the rest were fined or warned.
Among these HDB flats, there were another 28 cases of resale of HDB flats where the owners did not personally occupy the flats within the stipulated period and 15 of these flats were repossessed by the authorities.
HDB emphasises that it will take a serious view of such cases and will not hesitate to take enforcement action.
Offenders may face warnings, fines of up to $50,000, or the repossession of their HDB flats.
For those who cannot stay in their flats during the minimum residence period due to specific circumstances such as divorce, death of the owner, medical problems or being sent abroad for work, they should write to the HDB to apply.
