One of the government's main objectives is to create an inclusive society through public housing policy, which is why the government is providing more support to lower income families who want to buy a home, said Minister of State for National Development, Professor Fishore.

Speaking during a parliamentary debate on a motion on housing, Fischauer said that around 85 per cent of lower-income households had achieved the dream of home ownership, which is not common in other countries.

For those who need to save money and are not ready to buy a home, the government can provide them with rental HDB flats.

In the past 10 years, 7,800 families who were living in rental HDB flats have benefited from the HDB's different schemes and moved into their own homes, said Fishel.

Another 2,300 families have reserved their HDB flats and are waiting to receive their keys.

He said the Government was encouraged by this progress as it showed that HDB tenants could still realise their dream of home ownership.

In addition, Faisal said that some MPs had earlier expressed concern that older people were concerned about the shortening of their housing leases.

He pointed out that the Government had always taken care of the elderly and had planned ahead for them by introducing various measures to enable them to age in place independently.

He stressed that the Government would continue to look after the housing needs of the elderly.
