Abstract: The authorities are exploring the launch of Community Care HDB flats in more locations.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Appropriation Committee debate on the departmental expenditure budget, National Development Minister Lee Chee Seng said the Community Care HDB flats launched by the Ministry of National Development, the Housing Development Board and the Ministry of Health in Bukit Batok and Queenstown last year and last year respectively were well received by the elderly, and hoped that the authorities would launch such flats in more locations.

To meet the demand, about 200 pro-ageing HDB flats will be launched in Bedok this year as part of the pre-buy HDB project for senior citizens to apply for.

The new project will be surrounded by a number of facilities for elderly residents, such as Active Ageing Centres, People's Clubs, Pasha and Hawker Centres.

In addition, Minister of State for National Development Faisal announced that a new model of the Joint Singles Scheme Operator-Run will be piloted in three more locations.

The sites are Bukit Panjang, Petah Dalit and Sengkang, and are expected to open for applications by the end of this year, benefiting 600 single tenants.

Under the scheme, single people can apply for HDB flats on their own without having to find someone to share a flat beforehand. Social service agencies appointed by HDB will operate these rental flats and match singletons with flatmates.

Since its launch at the end of 2021, the scheme has been piloted in three locations and can accommodate about 400 tenants. Almost all the flats have been leased out so far.
