Abstract: The authorities expect to complete nearly 100,000 public and private homes between 2023 and 2025, as pandemic delays have forced Singapore to speed up the pace of construction.

By 2025, nearly 100,000 HDB flats will be ready.

The Minister for National Development (Desmond Lee) said that about 40,000 of these homes are expected to be completed by 2023, the highest level in the past five years, including 2018 and 2019. He also told the council that this included about 20,000 HDB flats in 22 housing projects.

He said, "Our priority is to catch up with lost time and provide keys to Singaporeans waiting for housing, and our colleagues are working very hard and are confident that it will be done soon."

Responding to a question from Workers' Party MP (Sengkang constituency) on soaring rents, Desmond Lee said the increased housing supply should help relieve some of the pressure on the rental market as those waiting for housing will stop renting and new housing will provide additional rental supply.

He also said that the Housing Authority has already stepped up its (BTO) HDB efforts and is "aggressively building on a large scale".

He added that there are now 100 BTO projects underway across the island, which will increase to over 150 parallel projects by 2025.
